I’ve extremely satisfied with Gmail for years, but improvements after a long period of quiet, especially performance-related and IMAP features are very welcome. Unfortunately, the latest rounds of updates apparently broke a lot of third-party Gmail extensions.
One side effect of this change is that if you’re using third-party Gmail extensions, they’re likely to stop working. We’ve contacted a number of the developers behind some popular extensions and provided them with an opportunity to create fixes, so check back with them for updates. We’re sorry that it may be a bit of a inconvenience, but we’re trying to make this change as smooth as possible.
See the announcement for more info.
An official update to Gmail Manager has been released. Get v0.5.4 here.
I use the Gmail Manager extension for Firefox. Here’s a patch that restores functionality until the author releases an update.
- Browse to your Firefox profile; you should see it by browsing to “%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles”
- Enter your profile folder, then the “extensions” folder
- Enter the “{582195F5-92E7-40a0-A127-DB71295901D7}” folder
- Enter the “components” folder
- Open “gmServiceGmail.js” in your favorite text editor (ex. Notepad)
- Find the following text: “?search=inbox&view=tl&start=0&init=1″ (without the quotes)
- Append “&ui=1″ to that text so it reads “?search=inbox&view=tl&start=0&init=1&ui=1″ (again, without the quotes)
- Restart Firefox
